I "found" this book today at the North County Times office, after hunting for books on the site. There was a batch of books that were supposed to be hanging from a tree, but the employees took them all down, so I went inside and inquired about them. They brought them out from the back and were about to give me all of them, but I only took two. I told them about this website and its objective, and they all thought it was interesting and were very nice to me. I hope to read the book and pass it on.

This book was first published in 1945, and I can see why it's considered a "classic." It's about farm animals who decide to overthrow the humans and do things their own way. The plot is very basic and can be summed up in a sentence or two. But the way that it is written is compelling, and it was very easy to read. Even though, halfway through, you know how the story's going to play out, I didn't lose interest. I didn't know exactly how the story would end... I had hoped for two things to happen, one of which did and the other which did not. However, upon reflection, I think that the book ended on the perfect note.

The political insinuations are suitably disturbing, and the points brought up are thought-provoking. The connection to Stalinist Russia, or whatever it was supposed to be, is undoubtedly the strongest connection people make to the book. I, however, neglected to read the "introduction," because it simply bored me to tears (I'm not much of a politics or history kind of person). Though I know the insinuations are there, I prefer to think of the story as its own entity.

This is a very short read, and I highly recommend it. If you haven't read it already and you happen upon a chance, just do it. It's only a few hours less in front of the television. That's why I read it.

Journal Entry 5 by Lexi210 at Mira Mesa High School in San Diego, California USA on Wednesday, October 15, 2003
Released on Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at Mira Mesa High School in San Diego - Mira Mesa, California USA.

I left this book in the walkway entrance between buildings 2 and 3, facing Mira Mesa Blvd.
My thoughts on leaving this book at the high school... maybe someone will find it and not have to actually buy the book for class, or pass it on to others who might need to read it for class. And hey, even if the finder doesn't *have* to, I think it's a cool book to read anyway, and it's short. =)
Enjoy!
