I bought this book at WH Smith's in Paris to read while watching the Tour de France on the hotel room's TV. Imagine my surprise when the tour went right below my window--at least seven times! Needless to say, I didn't finish the book until I was on the plane home several days later. It was supposed to be like Auntie Mame and started that way but did not fulfill that promise. Still, it was interesting to me at the time because some of it is set in Paris. It's also interesting because it the assimilation of a culture into American culture as well as the coming of age of women in the earlier parts of the last century.
