Catch 22

A classic, an I-Know-I-Should-Read-This-One, but not quite making it to my all-time favorites canon.

The book has arrived safe and sound. I will read it as soon as I can.
While the individual chapters are amusing the emphasis seems to be too heavily on the strange characters in the squadron and not enough on creating a coherent plot. Each chapter can be treated as a short story unto itself rather than part of a greater whole and after awhile that approach began to get on my nerves.
Pumpkyn has asked to be skipped. I will be sending the book to arugh48187 after New Year's.
Released on Saturday, January 08, 2005 at about 1:00:00 PM BX time (GMT-06:00) Central Time (US & Canada) at arugh48187 in n/a, n/a Controlled Releases.

I am ashamed to say that I have never read this. I am looking forward to it. I have one bookring in front of it and then it is up. You can track its progress via my bookshelf.
Hmmmm...I can't say I much liked this one. I was expecting it to be phenomenal since it has been around so long, but alas, it was disappointing. I hated it in the beginning, mainly because I just didn't get it. But then I read caligula03's comment about taking each chapter as a short story and that made the book infinitely more readable. Some of the circular conversations were rather confusing, but I just barrelled on and got through them. I think my favorite part of the book is the preface written by Joseph Heller himself. It goes on and on about how the critics hated the book and yet Yossarian lives on (basically a big Nyah-Nyah-Nyah-Nyah-Nyah-Nyah to all the naysayers). Hee!
Anyway, I've contacted zafferoni to return the book, but I haven't heard a peep. So, until she responds or I get fed up with PMing her this one will reside at my house. Thanks for sharing.

Well, I've done all the PMing and forum ISOing that I can handle on this one and am officially declaring the originator of this bookring MIA. So, I am marking this book as available. If somebody claims it, happy reading. I only ask that it doesn't get wild released and if zafferoni turns up looking for it, please return it. Thanks.
