I just happened to pick this book up in a university bookstore, many years ago, and have loved it ever since. If you (or your parents) grew up during the depression years, you just have to read this beautifully written memoir. It will remind you of your own family and the funny and crazy stories you heard so many years ago. The book is written in a very simple style - which makes it an easy and fun read. Russell Baker will dazzle you with his ability to 'turn a phrase'.
And by the way, this book won him the Pulitzer Prize in 1983 (so your English teacher will be proud of you for reading it ).
Enjoy the book ... and let us know if you liked it.
And please set it free for others to enjoy.
