A brilliant book that thoroughly debunks all sorts of nonsense. Goldacre not only slams the idiocy of homeopathy, the anti-vaccine mob and public figures like Patrick Holford and Gillian McKeith, but does so while providing a straightforward explanation of scientific method, with a bit of basic statistics and media savvy thrown in for good measure. I can only hope that lots of people read this book with a truly open mind but I may be asking too much. The book came out over 2 years ago, so why, in 2011, is my son (a science teacher) still being asked to teach brain gym at school?
And thankfully this edition of the book has an index and includes the chapter on Matthias Rath :-)

Sending to my NSSVS partner
Thanks Wilksie! Ben Goldacre is one of my favourite people on twitter - he posts fantastic links - so am looking forward to this. His massive article in the Guardian in 2004ish slamming Gillian McKeith was a classic.
All hail Ben Goldacre!
This is a brilliantly written, brilliantly explained book. It had an imediate affect on my way of thinking, and I hope it stays that way. (To give an example, I went wandering down the posh moisturiser aisle in a shop whilst on holiday and couldn't stop giggling at all the weird and wonderful claims on the labels.)
In most cases Goldacre doesn't teach many things that, fundamentally the typical reader won't know. But he tempts the brain cogs into whirring that bit harder and looking at the scientific world in a more critical, less accepting manner. I'm not releasing this immediately because I want to do further google research into many of the topics he introduces.
