French Lessons: Adventures with Knife, Fork, and Corkscrew

I meant to read this book before I went to France. Things got in the way and I was still reading it while I was IN France. I was disappointed to see that Mayle, a self-proclaimed Francophile, would make such sweeping generalizations about French culture. He writes about frog legs, wine, snails, etc. In short, he writes about French stereotypes rather than true French life. For a person who has never been to France, it does provide an insight, however stunted, to French culture and gastronomy. While it is well-written, it can be boring at times. All that being said, maybe it just isn't my type of book.
