My thoughts on the book;

Not read by me, but this was either bought as part of a bulk-buy "10 for £1" offer at a "withdrawn" books sale at Chelmsford Library, as part of a bulk-buy "two books for 50p" charity shop deal, left at our staff canteen along with other books people had finished with, or has been "donated" to the BookCrossing cause (or "your Book Travelling-thingy", as he calls it) by my dear Father. ;-)

Below review / text taken from; http://www.amazon.co.uk/Icehenge-Kim-Stanley-Robinson/dp/0006482554/;

"Voted one of the best science fiction novels of the year in the 1985 Locus Poll, Icehenge is an early novel by Kim Stanley Robinson (author of the trilogy comprising Red Mars, Green Mars, and Blue Mars) and takes place in the same universe. The story is part mystery and part psychological drama, divided into three distinct sections.

In the year 2248, Mars is ruled by a Politburo-like committee that actively discourages dissent as well as travel and exploration of other planets. Scientist Emma Weil becomes involved in a covert plot to convert a stolen ship into a self-supporting spaceship. She turns down a chance to accompany the starfarers, and returns to her beloved Mars where she joins the revolution already in progress.

Three centuries later, archaeologist Hjalmar Nederland unearths a governmental cover-up of the true facts behind the old revolution. At the same time, a Stonehenge-like monument is discovered on the north pole of Pluto, and Nederland sets out to prove his theory that the monument is connected to revolutionaries and their contemporaries who left for the stars. Seventy years later, his great-grandson Edmond Doya becomes convinced that Icehenge is a hoax, and attempts to disprove Nederland's theory.

In addition to futuristic issues such as interstellar travel and the terraforming of Mars, Robinson's characters grapple with politics, careers, families and ageing. Icehenge is a worthy introduction to the author's winning combination of hard science and believable characterization."

I'll be leaving this book on the shelf inside one of the two public telephone boxes that are just outside and down from the Market Road toilets, in Market Road, Chelmsford Town Centre.

You can view a Google Maps location for it, along with a great "Street view" of the actual telephone boxes at this TinyURL link;

It'll have a yellow "PICK ME UP" note stuck on its front.

Microsoft Office Word Label and Bookmark Templates;

A lot of us BookCrossers use sheets of shop-bought sticky labels to put the BCID numbers on our books, myself included. I've made up several BookCrossing label templates and other bits and bobs in MS Word, and if you would like any of them, drop me a Private Message with your requirements, and I can directly link you to what might be suitable for you.

See http://www.fishchipsandmushypeas.co.uk/bc/ for everything I have on offer, all for free download and use.

Templates are available in a wide range of label sizes and label brands, including; Ascom, Avery , Banner, Compulabel, Konica Minolta, MACO, Quill, Xerox etc.

I also have a sheet of basic bookmarks with the BC logo and "mail merge" versions of some of the Microsoft Word Banner labels templates too.

I can probably replicate any label layout fairly quickly into a different sheet layout, so tell me what you need!

I'm sorry I thought I'd journalled this one.

I really enjoyed it, for Sci-Fi it was actually pretty good! The story was told in three parts - the first being the diary of Emma Weil telling a story of mutiny and rebellion. The second part tells the story of the historian researching it all some hundreds of years later and coming up with theories as to what happened and why - he was also a little bit obsessed with Emma. The third part was told by the historians great grandson. and I can't say anymore because, spoilers. I liked the first part best, probably because it set the scene and I liked Emma a character. The third part was great, I loved the twists and turns in the story and reminded me that all the archeologists are doing are taking their best guess ;)
Also I found some descriptions of the technology and fixtures and fittings of the surroundings in the book a bit Steampunky which I really liked. Oh, and there were some rude bits *shock, horror*

This has now been passed to my dad, aka bookcrosser johnnyapplebook. I'll hack into his account and "catch" this book for him ;)
