This is a fascinating book, but you need to be really focussed to keep the threads of it together. It's a colonial book, about a convict - murderer and forger - who not only falls in love with an indigenous woman but he is ordered to document the range of fish from australian waters that are unheard of in the northern hemisphere. Each chapter is named after a fish and develops from there. It's very good imo.
