A treasure hunt at a gathering of the gentry in the English countryside leads to the murder of a barrister. Another of Ngaio Marsh's Inspector Alleyn mysteries, picked this one up on my first trip to The Book Thing of Baltimore.

I really enjoy Ngaio Marsh's books -- somehow in the spirit of Miss Marple, although I have a feeling Inspector Roderick Alleyn would resent that comparison. I am always a little surprised at the conclusion, although when it is explained, I wonder how I could have missed the obvious. I will be adding this to the International Mystery VBB started by bookstogive.

A complex mystery with eccentric characters spouting droll dialogue that was very entertaining. I couldn't believe that people would talk in such a manner, but I enjoyed it as I would enjoy watching a British farce with over the top language and dramatic staging. The mystery is better than most other "cozy" books, but I did become irritated with the repeated use of certain phrases. Passing this along at the next Calgary BC meeting.
