Journal Entry 1 by vedranaster from Zagreb, Zagreb City Croatia on Thursday, December 30, 2010
"Joey Harker isn't a hero. In fact, he's the kind of guy who gets lost in his own house. But then one day, Joey gets really lost. He walks straight out of his world and into another dimension. Joey's walk between the worlds makes him prey to two terrible forces -- armies of magic and science who will do anything to harness his power to travel between dimensions. When he sees the evil those forces are capable of, Joey makes the only possible choice: to join an army of his own, an army of versions of himself from different dimensions who all share his amazing power and who are all determined to fight to save the worlds."

Received this book yesterday, and am already 50 pages into it. :)

I'm hunting down all the Neil Gaiman books I still haven't read, so I bought this from BookDepository. Wasn't sure if it would be entering my permanent collection or continuing it's travels, but after reading about 50 pages last night, I believe this one will be staying on my shelf.

I like Neil Gaiman's books for children, as they tend to be written in a language more flowing. Moreover, there is less gore (not that Gaiman uses THAT MUCH gore in his adult books), but still all the mystery and wonder of magic and oddities which are so characteristic of his style.

Journal Entry 2 by vedranaster at Zagreb: Donji grad (city centre), Zagreb City Croatia on Saturday, January 1, 2011
A fast paced teen science/magic SF adventure. At times the lingo was just too much for my non-scientific mind, but it did not seriously take away from the plot. Actually, it might have added to it because it made me as perplexed by the new worlds which the main character encounters as it made him perplexed. I enjoyed the book very much, and it is definitely staying on my shelf, though I am considering opening up a bookring. :)

ETA: This is a TEEN book, don't be expecting for-adults Gaiman. *wink wink*

I've pm'ed Vekiki and have her address ready to post on. I've got another bookring to send to her at the same time, which is a brilliant coincidence as it'll save on postage :)

I've almost finished, will write a review once I've completed the book.

Journal Entry 7 by kiwiinengland at Dublin, Co. Dublin Ireland on Monday, February 7, 2011
I enjoyed the pseudo science of this book, and was really intrigued when Joey starting going between different variations of earth/his life.

The second half of the book where it turned into a big battle held my interest less, but I'm sure the target audience of teenage boys would have enjoyed it.

If you like this book I really recommend you read "The Halfmen of O" by Maurice Gee.

Hmmm... not Gaimen's best. An interesting story idea, but not very well executed, and pop-up book charecters.
Still, thankyou for sharing - i did love Hue (i want one!) so worth reading for him if nothing else

Popped in the post for the next reader

Journal Entry 11 by abigailann at Abingdon, Oxfordshire United Kingdom on Wednesday, March 2, 2011

Just arrived- will add to TBR pile. I have one ring waiting already after my current book, but should be able to finish in the next few weeks

Journal Entry 12 by abigailann at Abingdon, Oxfordshire United Kingdom on Thursday, March 17, 2011

This book really intrigued me because of its focus on parallel worlds, something which has interested me for a long time. Unfortunately, this weren't explained enough for my own liking. There were major differences between some of the worlds featured, but they didn't always seem logical. I found myself hoping throughout the first half of the book that the story would become more gripping. There were times throughout the second-half when the story gained interest and I began to really enjoy it. I particularly liked the character of Joey and the way he related to those from other dimensions, as well as the explanations of travel through dimensions. However, this interest was not consistant enough for me.
This may be a good story for children, but I'm afraid that- as an adult- there wasn't enough consistant depth to interest me.

PMing the next person now

Journal Entry 15 by JonniC at Birmingham, West Midlands United Kingdom on Friday, April 1, 2011
I really did enjoy this, although I did find it slow. It seemed very much similar to a lot of different books, which might have been the reason why it took me so long as I felt I'd already read it.

This book explored lots of things and as the action got more intensed I fully enjoyed it and noticed my reading pace picking up, I definitely enjoy Neil Gaiman books, and I so hope that I'll be reading more books of his in the future!

Will send this out on Wednesday, hopefully.

This JUST got here. Thanks vedranaster for sharing and elidanora for sending! I'm currently reading another book ray/ring so it will go on the shelf until I can get to it next. I've been meaning to read all of Neil Gaiman's books so thank you!

Journal Entry 24 by BookBirds at Central Square, New York USA on Friday, October 14, 2011
This wasn't bad. I thought it would be worse, mainly because I remember a review that was horrible for it. It's a teen book though, so it goes fast. I really wish there had been a bit more detail to it. There were so many characters, they really needed more pages to become those characters. That is what the cover image depicts - the team of six "Joey Harkers". So really the only bad thing was not enough detail! I love the Neverwhere characters more though. (That's the Marquis de Carabas as my profile picture.)

Reading other journal entries, I find it interesting that I wasn't the only person who had other book rings/rays to read before this one! It seems the rings/rays always show up at the same time, even if you've only signed up for a few of them.

I already have Izzy5000's address. Should be sending in the next couple of weeks...

This book was alright, I think I would have liked it better ten years ago or so. Neil Gaiman gets brownie points for my personal favorite line, "It was like a light show and a fireworks show and the destruction of Sauron's tower..." (204) What a great Lord of the Rings reference. That line just made the book.

I'll get the next address and hopefully have this out by the end of next week at the latest.

Book has arrived. Thanks.
It's now super busy at work and w holidays coming up, I am a bit slower in my reading. Some days gone by without a chance to read, which is unusual for me. I will try my best to move it out soon but there is another ring ahead of this. Not to scare you guys - the ring won't get stalled - but this stay may be slightly longer.

Journal Entry 30 by wingAzukiwing at Miami, Florida USA on Sunday, December 18, 2011
I did manage to read it within a month, I'm happy to report. : )

Also glad to say that I enjoy the story, especially as I wasn't too impressed with the last few Gaiman books I read. A lot of interesting concepts and characters, and plenty of potential to flesh out the story. Thanks so much, Vedranaster, for sharing this.

I pm'ed gaslightq a few days ago and will try to contact him/her again.

12/26 ETA: Never heard back from gaslightq, but I got in touch w Tsjara. This will be going out to her.

The book is here. Thank you very much Azuki (and for the extra wishlist book and goodies you included)! I have one other ring in front, which I've just started reading.. so I hope to get to this one in a little while. Looking forward to another Neil Gaiman story. :) Thanks for sharing the book Vedranaster!

Journal Entry 32 by Tsjara at Assendelft, Noord-Holland Netherlands on Sunday, January 29, 2012
I really enjoyed this story actually, fast paced, lots of action, and some funny bits. And Joey Harker is a very likeable character. Quite strange actually that all the people at the Base Town are all differrent Joey Harkers from different dimensions. And when the story ended, it left me wanting for a bit more (and still wondering what Frostnight was). Oh and Hue is very cute. :)

I have PMed Libera13 a couple times, but no reply yet (she doesn't seem active anymore?), will wait a bit longer.

Well, 7 years after sending this little book out as a ring, and 5 years after it was last logged, I am finally giving up hope of it ever finishing its journey and returning back home, as it seems to have become permanently stalled.
Hopefully, it's on a shelf somewhere, or finding new readers.
