Catch-22

This is a gift, Merry Christmas
Arrived today. Thank you so much unfixable for the book from my wishlist and a 1001 book at that. I want to read 20 1001 books in 2011.
At first, I was going to give up on the book, but decided that since 1) it is a 1001 book, 2) I still need to read 5 1001 books this year to reach my goal, 3) it is a KTM book, and 4) I already started it - I would finish the book.
I ended up enjoying the book, though not some of the language and the treatment of women (though I am sure they are both true to the theater represented in the book). The novel has a very sarcastic attitude and reality is dropped with the first character introductions. The humor is not for everyone, because Heller uses many paradoxes (look up definition of "catch-22"), simple one line contradictions, and subtle word choices to represent the personality of the novel.
There are so many characters that the reader can get lost; yet grasping the names doesn't always seem important. Of course, you quickly get associated with Yossarian. By the later chapters of the novel, Heller subtly introduces the gruesome truths of the war, balancing the early humor with a more realistic look.

Enjoy! 1001 KTM book
