... am about one-third of the way through, having been interrupted by the need to read other books.
Sorry - I passed this on at the first Huntingdon meet-up, without completing my journal entry. I thought it was a great read, although deliberately made unfriendly to the reader by omission of paragraphs and other conventions.
I was amazed to find that the road he refers to where the Jewish building is is just a couple of hundred yards from where I live when I'm in London. I also liked the description of Liverpool Street Station - it just seemed to ring bells for me.
I'll undoubtedly want to read this again at some stage - can't say fairer than than really.

Sorry Chris - I beat you to it!
I chose this from a pile of books Chrisp93 brought to the first Unofficial Huntingdon Meetup yesterday. Unfortunately it will be added to my TBR pile but I hope I'll get to it soon ... someday :-o

I finally reached this in Mt TBR, spurred on by the 2005 UK Unconvention in July and wanting to move on as many books as possible.
I'm sorry to say that I just can't finish it. Sebald's choice to write without the use of paragraphs, parenthesis and endless use of commas makes the book difficult to read without the endless rambling at tangents. I was keen to read about Austerlitz's escape from Nazi occupation and his life thereafter but the relevant information was well hidden within a wealth of trivia (in my opinion!) I tried speedreading to reach the relevant points but I just didn't feel engaged enough to make it worthwhile. Sorry! Just too many other books waiting for my attention to make this one worth the work :o(
Thanks anyway Chris and I shall pass the book on at the Unconvention - I'm sure someone else might enjoy it.

Picked up at the unconvention
Sorry, I have tried but without paragraphs and chapters to break up the writing it was too much. I kept forgetting where I had read up to and would have to start the page again. Surley someone out there will be able to make it through the whole book. I wish it well.
