Since Minerva101 has been recommending sci-fi books lately, I thought a Canadian collection was a good way for me to sample various authors. I chose this for the short story by Spider Robinson, a name recently recommended. Thank you ZaraGaia.

I enjoyed several of these short stories: Home by the Sea by Elisabeth Vonarburg in which maternal and familial feelings are explored in an intriguing way. I won't forget The Byrds by Michael G. Coney which humorously poked at the serious issue of ageing parents. Phyllis Gotlieb's Tauf Aleph had clever insights into the meaning of religion. God is an Iron by Spider Robinson was a wonderful story with a twist.
Originally I was going to release this book for the Canada Day Challenge as it was perfect with Canadian SF authors, but as I read these great stories, I thought instead to give the book to Minerva101 to enjoy.

Thanks for thinking of me for this one, rureading! Looks like a neat book and after going through the list of authors it also looks like a good opportunity to discover a few "new-to-me" sci-fi authors that are homegrown :)

Journal Entry 7 by Minerva101 at Calgary, Alberta Canada on Saturday, September 13, 2014
I've been chipping away at these short stories for the past couple months, just reading them on my breaks at work. Shameful that I left it on my shelf for so long!
Like rureading, I loved the Spider Robinson story! He is a favorite of mine - always weird and wonderful :)
Also, Candace Jane Dorsey is very good - she waxes feminist, but is also compelling without being a zealot.
Great collection to share and I will finally take this one to the Bookcrossing meeting to find a new reader.

I liked this collection of short stories. The mixture of long and short and very short pieces was different.

Standouts for me are The Byrds, God is an Iron, and A Strange Visitor.

I look forward to reading the other Tesseracts books that was brought into the book club!

Hooray! I finally finished this book! I find it hard to get through anthologies. Just as you're getting into one story, it's over. With that said, there were some great stories in this book. I really enjoyed (in no particular order): "The Woman Who Is the Midnight Wind", "Tauf Aleph", "2DWORLD", "The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Writer" and "God is an Iron".
