THE AUTHOR
JOSE Y. DALISAY JR. has published four books of fiction and a book of short plays. Three of those books have won National Book Awards from the Manila Critics Circle. He teaches English and Creative Writing at the University of the Philippines, where he also serves as an Associate for Fiction at teh UP Creative Writing Center. He was named one of 1993's Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM), for his work in literture. A collection of his full-lenght plays and a collaborative work with photographer Jaime Zobel are forthcoming.
THE BOOK
SARCOPHAGUS AND OTHER STORIES, first published by the UP Press in 1992, is Jose Y. Dalisay Jr.'s second collection of short stories. The first edition of 500 copies sold out shortly after publication. But many of the author's strongest stories - "The Other Side," "In the Garden," "Merlie," "The Body" and "Under the Dinosaurs" appear in this collection. This reprinting makes them available again to Dalisay's readers, students and critics.
