I really made an effort to read the Shadow of the Wind, the first book by Zafon, because I didn't want to believe that a novel about so fascinating stuff - rare, destroyed and hidden books, desperate love story, sadistic enemies, romantic smell of decay around everything - didn't work at all for me. In the end I got most of it read, hoping against hope that it would suddenly come together and start to grab me. Didn't happen.

I had a couple of looks at this one, and send it gladly on its way. Hope somebody enjoys it, somewhere.

Just finished the book, I read it several weeks parallel with other books. I should have known when I was pondering several moments with this at the meetup at oofiri's place, whether to take it or not.

It was an ok read but nothing like The Shadow of the Wind. That book I read in Barcelona and apparently got huge impact from it. I really like the city, and in this book it was also nice to read about it but the plot wasn't any clever which it clearly tried to be, i guess. Though, I could have spent my time worse.
