Although this book was very heartfelt and saddening, I was very touched by it. I could not believe that people would actually abuse little children. And it hurts to know that people still do. I was very interested to read this book because I know someone who has actually been abused and I wanted to understand and get a better idea of what they have been through. People who are like Ed in this book disgusts me because I honestly do not understand how one could abuse a small child over and over again for years and not even have a conscience to stop. The first time Ed abuses Amy gave me the cold chills when I read it. Amy was only a small defenseless girl who was vulnerable to almost anything. Later when she finds out that along with herself, her sisters were also abused but she did not find that out until later; I thought that was really sad. To not know that your siblings have also been getting abused by the same person in the household you is very scary because it just shows that Amy’s family was not close. They did not speak about what was happening to them and they could not tell their mother because they did not want to get into anymore trouble and then have to deal with more abuse from Ed. I think sometimes people do not tell anyone about the abuse or what happens to them because they are scared that people will say that they deserved it or they are ashamed of what people will think of them. But the reality is that this happens a lot and the victims should be able to speak out and let people know their story so that in the end the victims will become stronger and be able to help those who are scared to. For those who need a courageous story to help give them faith and hope, I encourage everyone to read this story of a courageous woman who is not afraid to tell her story.
