I really actually can't tell you how much I love this book! I read it first when I was about nine, and I read physics at university because of it!
It's a classic adventure/scifi yarn, way ahead of its time, and if your tastes run to either adventure or scifi, you'll like it. If you do, the old film version with James Mason is well worth a look.
