This is a really good book. Written in alternating chapters from the perspective of the colored maids Aibileen and Minny and the white college graduate Eugenia, called Skeeter, it offers a moving, funny and sad insight into the complex relationship between Southern women.
As well, it is a tale of emancipation, from your home, your prejudices, your family, your chains...

Highly recommended.

Taken to the mini meetup with Constantweader.
If you aren't familiar with Bookcrossing, take a few minutes to check out this very cool site. Bookcrossers LOVE books, and more than anything, they love to read books and then set them free for other people to find and enjoy. We would love it, if you would leave a journal entry -- you can say where you found the book or how you liked it when you read it.

Journal Entry 7 by YokoSpungeon at Dunboyne, Co. Meath Ireland on Sunday, February 5, 2012
It took me about four months to read this book. This was due to pressure of time.

I did enjoy it, the characters are very affectionately drawn, and the story ambles along pleasantly and very believably.

It was a pleasure to get a few pages of this tale every night before sleep.

The really compelling parts for me were those which highlighted the bravery and cowardice of the different women depicted.

ETA - released at local service station in Dunboyne 09/02/12.
