From the back cover...

WHEN CHAOS RULES WHO DARES DREAM OF ORDER?
'How strong are you? That's all that matters, you see. Your strength. Your ability to look on the face of Chaos and stay sane. That's how we're all judged here.'
Twelve years as a Chaos rider had taught Benetan Liss the truth of those ominous of his work. Yet despite the terrors and demands of his work, he was loyal to his masters and devoted to Chaos's seven formidable gods...
Lord Vordegh was something far worse than a mere tyrant - and the obsession that drove him was one in which sanity had no place.
On the first bitter night of the new reign, the mask of compliance which Benetan had worn for so long began to crack. And behind the mask lay a road to nightmare...

I'm on chapter 5 and find it interesting but it hasn't gripped me in the same way that Mirage (same author) did. There's plenty of time for that though as this is early in the first book of a trilogy! Interesting concept though.

OK, I finally got into this book and began to enjoy it. I was annoyed, in the beginning, by how often she utilized "titanic" and "crimson" as adjectives, but she let up on those!
The more I read, the more I become intrigued. The Chaos and Order concepts being more complex than the straight forward evil vs good; I'm curious to see where Cooper goes from here. The complexity with which she enshrouds her themes becomes engrossing and titlilating. Make sense? I just don't want to provide any spoilers :(
This would make an excellent bookclub book as it lends itself to discussion easily.
Definite pagan over tones--especially in terms of ritual, but not necessarily in philosophy.

Looking forward to reading - what can I say. I love having books waiting for me. I'll likely start with Mirage rather than this trilogy - I'm just not sure about Louise Cooper yet. I'm very much a science fiction and fanstasy lover - but so far Louise Cooper hasn't engaged me. I'll give these a try and let you know.
