I've never read this series, although I've heard it's very good. I have read Smith's Sunday Philosophy Club and enjoyed that one. I picked this book up recently at the Book Thing, for BC. This is the 2nd one in the Ladies' Detective Agency series.

From the cover -
Precious Ramotswe is the eminently sensible and cunning proprietor of the only ladies' detective agency in Botswana. In Tears of the Giraffe she tracks a wayward wife, uncovers an unscrululous maid, and searches for an American man who disappeared into the plains many years ago. In the midst of resolving uncertainties, pondering her impending marriage to a good, kind man, Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni, and promoting her talented secretary (a graduate of the Botswana Secretarial College, with a mark of 97 per cent), she also finds her family suddenly and unexpectedly increased by two.

Hmmm, I don't think this book has been sitting on the shelf all this time, so it must have gone visiting and has recently come back. I was cleaning the shelf off to bring in some new books, so I brought this one home to release elsewhere.

Alexander McCall Smith's books crack me up. I'll be sure to pass this on
after I have read it. I got it at the Gaithersburg Book Festival a couple of
weeks ago.
