Unlucky In Law

From the back..."Nina has just received a last-minute call from her old boss and mentor in Monterey County, California, where she is spending time with her boyfriend, P.I. Paul van Wagoner. Klaus Pohlmann begs Nina to take over a seemingly unwinnable case: A luckless two-time felon named Stefan Wyatt has robbed a grave and made off with the long-buried bones of a Russian emigre. Further devastating evidence found in the grave suggests that Stefan is guilty of a far more deadly crime.
A young woman, a classmate of Stefan's, has been killed, and he is accused of her murder. Now, as a result of California's Third Strike law, Wyatt is looking a twenty-five years to life whether he's convicted of grand theft or murder. Either way, he's in big trouble.
As the evidence mounts against Nina's client, Paul launches his own investigation into the shadowy past of the two-decades-old skeleton. But long-held secrets nearly get him killed and reveal a more insidious evil at work--and an extraordinary story dating back to tsarist Russia and the Romanov court. As Wyatt edges closer to the unluckiest verdict of his young life, Nina makes an astounding discovery that just might save her client--or expose a killer who could bury them all."
My thoughts...listened to most of this on a road trip. The story had a lot of twists and turns and different people appeared to be guilty throughout the book.

Sending to Aberpeter in WA.
arrived in today's mail. Thanks dabercro.
A very entertaining story that I listened to while commuting to work. The case and the trial were very interesting. I suspected many of the twists and turns long before they were revealed yet it didn't spoil the overall story. I have to say that I wasn't nearly as interested in the back stories. I didn't care so much for Nina's personal life including her relationship with Paul, her move from Tahoe, her son Bob, or her secretary Sandy. It felt like filler information and didn't add to the overall tale.
adding to BigJohnLefty's audio bookbox.
This came back to me in "Another CD-Only AudioBookBox" - plan to listen to this soon.
Wow - this one had some interesting stuff in it..... starting out as a story about a guy who just flat out has bad luck with the law, it turns into a complex case involving the relieability of blood analysis and techniques of evidence collection, not to mention some historical questions about the last czar of Russia and his family.
There were some really good surprises at the end.....
Will release into a box when the opportunity presents itself....
