A really good read by the acclaimed writer Theodore Sturgeon who wrote some Star Trek's most popular episodes, such as Amok Time.
Kirk and the Enterprise crew have to find out why a planet has cut off itself off from the outside world (or should that be universe) They find a machine that offers the inhabitants perfect happiness - and plans to expand throughout the Federation.
