Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, Book 1)
10 journalers for this copy...
I hope you enjoy the book. It is the start of a series. I find the books a good read, not as good as some, better than others, listed in paranormal romance. At least there seems to be consistent rules and more-or-less believable characters. Some witty dialog too.
Off to Washington state. If you don't like this one, well, the others won't please much either. Have fun with them anyway.
This arrived in the mail today. I'm looking forward to starting this series. Probably will take me a little bit to get started in it, as I'm going on vacation next week (to Tucson) and like to take books that I'm ok wild releasing. Will probably start the first one after I get back.
I really liked this book and had a hard time putting it down. I liked the characters and how things are just a little different with vampires and such. I'm looking forward to starting the next one soon. Thanks again for sending the series my way!
To help ensure that things run smoothly (or that is the plananyhow), I've put together a few rough guidelines for this one. I know that some people take longer to read a book (busy, got a bunchof books to read before, work, kids, etc)...
1. Please try to have this book read within 3 weeks. I know this isn't always possible, but if you make an effort to try that is all I can ask.
2. Please journal when you receive the book.
3. When about halfway through, please contact the next person on the list for their mailing address.
4. Please journal again when you've read the book and it is on its way.
5. Have fun! Reading is supposed to be fun!
Sending order:

Off to start this spiral
I think this arrived over the weekend, but I have books sent to my work address as it's more secure, and I'm just now going through mail from Saturday on!
Damn you, Jeaniene Frost! I have a shelf in my bookcase full of books that are part of series that I need to catch up on, and now you've hooked me on yet another!
Ok, I know, its really my own fault, because of course I knew it was the first book in a series. But I'd read a couple of reviews about it some time back and, despite my resolve to not start any new series until I finish the ones (or at least one of the ones) that have piled up on me, I really wanted to read this book. So I caved. And it so lived up to my expectations!
There are a lot of vampire fiction/romance series out there. Some I've avoided like the plague (yes, Twilight, I'm referring to you), some I've wearied of and I have to space them out (sorry, Anita Blake, I like sex in a story but I like some story in between the sexual encounters, and lately you are all about nothing but sex sex sex), some I'm eager to continue with (Argeneau clan! Call me!), and some I've only gotten a little way into and haven't really decided on (Lil Marchette, you kinda get on my nerves, but damn, I want more Ty Bonner!).
So here we have Catherine "Cat" Crawfield, who learned when she was a teenager that her rapist father was a vampire. She's human, but she's half vampire, with enhanced strength, senses, and eyes that glow green when she's pissed. She's always been a loner, never had any close friends, and her first boyfriend coerced her into sex and then dumped her. She and her mother share a room in her grandparents house, and it's a house, not a home, at least not for Cat. On the weekend, she trawls the local bars, looking for vampires to lure out, get alone, and then kill. Her mother has taught her that all vampires are evil and should die, and she's devoted her life to this mission, hoping to eventually find and kill her father.
Then she her latest conquest-to-be turns the tables on her, and she wakes up in a cave, stripped to her underwear and chained to the wall. She's been kidnapped by Bones, a gorgeous vampire with a cool accent - I pictured/heard Chase from House in my head (is that weird?). Bones is a bounty hunter - like Cat, he kills vampires, when someone has offered a bounty for one. But he's also trying to take down a mysterious ring of vamps who are preying on young girls, and he thinks Cat is working for the enemy. Once she convinces him she's only working for herself, he decides she might be useful to him, and blackmails her into training with and then working for him. She'll still get to kill vampires, but he will choose the targets. The inevitable happens of course, and romance blossoms. But as with all romances, there are complications, and Cat is not sure they can be overcome.
Cat is an awesome heroine, bright and sarcastic. She's a ruthless killer when it comes to vampires, not so much with humans unless they are working for or with the vampires. Bones is a violent hero, also a ruthless killer but with fewer scruples than Cat. A couple of times I felt a little squeamish at some of his actions, but not so much that I didn't adore him regardless. I so want them to be able to be together, and I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
I already have carelaisa's address, so am packing the book up and will get it in the mail to her. Thanks for starting this spiral thegoaliegirl!

Rec'd it last Friday, June 30th. I didn't registered it sooner, as I spent our long weekend over here outside...
And I've already started reading it... so it shouldn't be too long for me to finish it!
***EDIT*** July 11th -- almost done with the book...

What can I say? I loved it! I do think that I’ve found another series with vampires that is fun to read, with lovable and not-so lovable characters. It has actions, fun scenes, a romance that is there for the long haul, a mother trying to control her only daughter, in her on. Ah, she’s quite feisty this one. She’s been taught vampires are all bad but as she get to know one who isn’t bad… which makes her rethink everything she knows about vampires. The writing is nice, quite addictive and fluid. Since it’s a series, we get to know the characters but not all is said at once so I’m definitely curious to see where it will go. Oh, I also love the fact that the main character is half-human, half-vampire… but isn’t like a certain character found in another quite popular vampires series…
It will go in the mail tomorrow...
july 17th: officially in the mail, to rrrcaron

Received this book in the mail today. I have a book in progress, but this will be next!
I so enjoyed this book. Can't wait to see what happens next. Will Bones find and reunite with Cat? Anxiously awaiting the next book!! Sending on to next reader.

Came in the mail yesterday but did not get around to opening due to working all day and then going out to celebrate my oldest daughter's birthday (25! The time has flown by and she is a wonderful young woman. OK, I'm biased)
Will start this series once I finish a few others that have been promised. Shouldn't take more than a few weeks.

Excellent start of a new (to me) series - arrgh! I too have shelves of books calling to me, Aramena.
Cat is an 'amateur' vampire hunter when Bones, a master vampire, kidnaps her. He makes her a deal - train with him and she kills the vampires he's hunting. There are some similarities to early Anita Blake novels (Cat is half vampire, young, and eventually falls for Bones, a former Englishman - Anita is a necromancer, young, and eventually falls for Jean-Claude, a former Frenchman), but the sex is less, um, graphic. Cat is an awesome heroine - she's tough, sarcastic (somewhat like a female Harry Dresden), and intelligent. Bones is ruthless in his pursuit of the bad vampires and Cat. His training of her is brutal yet necessary if she is to survive.
I was reluctant to start another series, especially one where I would need to read it in a timely manner (as others are waiting), but I am SO glad I did. Thanks for organizing this, goaliegirl!
Will get this off as soon as I get the next address

Sending to the next person in the spiral - penelopewanders. This is a good series so far - Enjoy!

A new series by a new author... looks like fun! The first two in this series have arrived here in the Alps.
This is a very busy time for me workwise, so there are a few books idling in front of these, but I hope to get to them soon. If worse comes to worst, I have a long train journey scheduled towards the end of the month, so if I haven't been able to get to them before then, I can read them on the train. Thanks so much for making these available and sending!

New series here as a spiral. Interesting take on vampires and vampire hunting, and nice to have a strong female heroine. Quite a fun read. I've got the first two and will send them on together, hopefully soon.

Was a bit slow to get me going but there were lots of laugh out loud moments, great one liners and it finished with a flourish. Can't wait to read the next one!

Sorry it took me so long to JE this, I received it on Wednesday, but shortly after I dislocated my knee. I have been given a splint/brace for it, which I got yesterday, and I have to keep it on for a week or two... Meaning I can just lye down and read, perfect excuse to get some much needed reading in.
There's a few books in front of this one, how do they all come in at once I don't know, but since I'll be doing some non-stop reading for a few days, I'm sure I'll get on top of things :)

I finished this good, and MY GOD this storyline is so good. I'm sorry it took me so long to get around to it, but once I did, I just couldn't stop reading, finished it in less than a week.
Everything was put in well, some scenes went a little too quick, so much so that I had to read them again, however I was caught up in the moment, and I liked the scenarios that cropped up that I couldn't even begin to dream about.
The only thing I have against this book is that I wasn't drawn into the writing, I don't think Jeaniene Frost is that good of a writer, the book was quite plodding, and wasn't quite a rich writing that would've fitted great with this novel. Not only that I don't think many things were described fully, some bits I had to presume or guess rather than reading about it.
However, I could easily see through that and I quickly became empowered by the glory of this storyline, and what an ending! :O I cannot wait to start the sequel, which I have on my bookshelf :) Will be sending this off soon :)
According to Scruffykaz's profile, she is currently inactive and wish to pass on any bookrings/rays/spirals. So I shall send onto the next person :)

Wow I loved these books, I started reading at the beginning of week, and didn't stop until I had finished all 3! Romance, sex, action, humor and yucky blood and guts all in the right amount.
:)
Is there anyone after me or can I hold on to this series until my sister in law gets back for England? I'm sure she will love reading these too.
