A whole sub-genre of fiction was created for this book and its successors - "Bog Gothic". An element of the grotesque serves to amplify the frailties of humankind. Why do we have motives at all ? Even the narrator of this work has his motives, please don't believe him all the time. The lives of two men are inscibed in the book, a brief crossing of paths and the separating roads therafter hurtling into chaos.
