Harry Flashman is back. A Forty-Niner on the RIo Grande and Santa Fe trail, helping his old doxy move her bawdy-house from New Orleans to California. . . best man at Geronimo's wedding and barely escaping some imaginative needlework by the local squaws' sewing guild. That should have been enough of God's Own Country for one lifetime, but twenty-seven years later he is back, mixing with President Grant and mountainy men like Kit Carson as the Sioux and Cheyenne are chiselled out of their hunting grounds and Custer drops his clanger at Little Big Horn. Once again, just when retribution seems to have Harry by the short and curlies, he ends up the hero of the hour.

Sending as part of the Alphabet Relay. Enjoy this book. I was advised to read this by a work colleague and I really enjoyed it. The humour is excellent and the mans audacity is outstanding.

You have found a travelling book. Why not join in the fun? Read, release and pass on but don't forget to write a Journal Entry telling us where you found the book, if you read it what you thought about it and where you are going to leave it. If you join bookcrossing before you do the entry you will get an alert when the next person writes up about it and can track its travels. If you prefer to just leave an Anonymous Journal Entry, it will brighten up my day either way. Oh and if you like the book sooooo much you just don't want to let it go that is fine too, maybe one day eh :)

Not my usual reading material and I would not have picked this up in a bookshop. I had some difficulty getting in to the story and tried reading another book to help out and it worked. I found Flashman was extremely amusing and the language in the book weird and sometimes wonderful, certainly nothing I have read before contains some of the dialogue for lustful thoughts/actions! How a man can get in so many scrapes in 18 months is beyond me but then I haven't any experience of the Wild West :) Thanks for sending me this unusual book disneyfreaksam. It's time to move it on again - reserved for a shrinking VBB I will be organising soon.

ETA 5/11/13 - woo hoo it's been chosen from the VBB :)

Politically incorrect, bawdy and very entertaining, at least to begin with. I tired of Flashman eventually and I did not want to go to the battle of Little Big Horn. I was pulled along by my desire to finish the book but my mind was like a child dragging its feet and whining I don't want to. The portrayal of Custer was sometimes laugh out loud funny, I wonder if he was really like that. There was a lot to enjoy here but I got tired of it. I was even hoping the Indians would just kill Flashman as he was that annoying by the end of the book. Of course they don't and we get a surprise at the end. The book is historically interesting. I think it might make a very good audiobook.
