Journal Entry 1 by fracula from Calgary, Alberta Canada on Friday, December 23, 2011
Orphan, clock keeper, and thief, Hugo lives in the walls of a busy Paris train station, where his survival depends on secrets and anonymity. But when his world suddenly interlocks with an eccentric, bookish girl and a bitter old man who runs a toy booth in the station, Hugo's undercover life, and his most precious secret, are put in jeopardy. A cryptic drawing, a treasured notebook, a stolen key, a mechanical man, and a hidden message from Hugo's dead father form the backbone of this intricate, tender, and spellbinding mystery.

What an amazing book! I just had to buy to read before seeing the movie "Hugo".

Beautiful story and illustations. I will never say that I don't read graphic novels anymore!

Picked up this book at the Calgary BookCrossing February meeting. I've heard good things about this book. Looks interesting!

Journal Entry 5 by locker-monster at Calgary, Alberta Canada on Wednesday, April 11, 2012
Don't be misled by how thick the book is. It's worth reading. The mix of text and images was different and I really liked it. It's a book and a graphic novel in one, sort of. And I thought this was a fantasy book, but it's not. It's based in truth. There are robots that can draw. Look them up after you've read the book.

I'm picking up the movie, too, to see how it was adapted for the screen.

Journal Entry 8 by Eri-Cherry at Calgary, Alberta Canada on Monday, August 5, 2013
I had already seen the movie before being handed the book, so I already knew the story line, but I really loved reading it. The format between the written story and the drawn story was very well done, and I liked the writing style. Sadly I didn't much care for the girl's character in the book, but the rest were great. I loved the art work and wish there was more! Loved the ending!

Thanks for the great read!

What a fantastic book! I loved the mix of drawings and words to tell the story. Surprisingly this was a very fast read, don't let it's weight fool you. I saw the movie before reading this and really enjoyed it as well.

Great book! Yes, as others say....it is a fast read...honestly about an hour. The only "problem" is that I was so interested in the words part of the story, that I didn't really appreciate the beautiful art work.

Didn't realize there is a movie...will check it out!

I was very lucky that we had the movie so I could watch it today....not as good as the book but cute anyways!

I enjoyed reading this very much. It had been a long time since I saw the movie so I didn't remember the finer points. I really tried to take my time and study the drawings to carry me through the story.

Looks like a very interesting read. I'm always drawn to the use of art in non-graphic novels.

Journal Entry 25 by BookyMcBooks at Calgary, Alberta Canada on Saturday, December 12, 2015
Great book. I loved how the drawings both quickened the action scenes and froze the intimate moments. Plus, there is a sense of accomplishment reading a 500 page book in an hour :)

This is the most amazing book. The book looks intimidating by it's size, but the Brian Selznick is a genius as he writes this book with text and pictures he has illustrated himself. He writes the text and continues with pictures which tell the story and then he continues to write. It was a very good and endearing book. This book is a masterpiece and should be read by all.

An excellent story told with illustrations by the author about a young boy who kept time going

Journal Entry 36 by Crataegus at Calgary, Alberta Canada on Saturday, May 12, 2018
I've been avoiding this book since I wasn't a major fan of Wonderstruck, but this one sounds a lot more interesting. Looking forward to the read!

Journal Entry 37 by Crataegus at Calgary, Alberta Canada on Saturday, July 14, 2018
I didn't like wonderstruck since it felt gimmicky to me, and to a point, I feel the same about this book. But the plot was much more enjoyable even though I didn't care much for how insensitive the main characters were. Especially Isabelle.

Will be brought back to Calgary Bookcrossing and handed off.
