I am not that fond of mediaeval mysteries, but I enjoyed this novel quite a bit. Sir John de Wolfe is a county coroner, which means that he (among other things) is the equivalent of a modern detective in Exeter. Of special interest to me was the depiction of the religious strife that lends the title and quite a lot of the plot to this book. Sometimes the people seemed a bit too modern, but on the other hand, the author does seem to know quite a lot about daily life in those times.
