"The top sci-fi writer of the 90s turns in this eloquent tale of a mid-21st century history student who is mistakenly transported back to a medieval English village on the eve of Black Plague in 1348. Dark and sombre at times, the book is nevertheless a triumph of the human spirit. Popular in academic circles and generally regarded as Willis' best." ~ Peter Sykes

Woo Hoo! I couldn't resist running out to hunt for a couple of books when I saw the release note this morning. Thank you, ZaraGaia! And hopefully you can join us at our next Bookcrossing meeting in Novemeber.
Awesome book! I loved it!
In a way, remniscient of The Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks, but so much cooler to the sci-fi geek within because of the time-travel aspect of the book. Vivid portrayal of the plague. Really enjoyed bouncing back and forth between the 'present' and the 'past'.
****SPOILER ALERT****
I also totally loved the 'slang' in the book - I can almost hear myself using the words 'necrotic' and apocalyptic' more often. Great words! Mrs. Gaddson deserved a poke in the eyes. Colin was a doll. Mr. Dunworthy was a great character and I loved his droll sense of humor. The American bell ringers were an interesting(and sometimes funny) addition to the story. And I went out and bought a bunch of 'lavatory paper' after I read the book as I am sure that Finch's obsessiveness rubbed off on me a bit. And I cried over Father Roche and Agnes. sigh........
I am setting this book aside for the Calgary Bookcrossing Sci-Fi/Fantsy meeting at the Joshua Tree on Saturday. Also I am going to count it as a release towards the E-less release challenge :)
Thank you so much, ZaraGaia! I hope to see you on Saturday!

Picked up at november bookcrossing get together
Sadly I had left this book sitting on my shelf unread for so long because it had a great many pages and small print, so I was afraid it was going to take me forever to read. However, it was a surprisingly quick read! And it was a very good one, too.
Despite the seriousness of the situations the characters found themselves in, the book made me laugh outloud more than once with its quirky characters. Most of the characters really endeared themselves to me, save the ones who were supposed to be super annoying.
Thank you so much for the excellent read!

Taken to BC get together
Was given this to take to July's meeting, will bring tomorrow. Hopefully it will find a new reader.
Brought this home from the July Bookcrossing meeting.
OK - another book that 1) I found in my husband's bedside drawer, 2) Didn't like the title 3) Didn't like the cover SOOOO put off reading it. Tsk tsk as I really liked it. Those pages kept turning! Thanks for the good read.
I am bringing this to tomorrows meetup at Cravings to be passed on to the next reader.
Picked up this book at the Calgary BookCrossing January meet-up. I can't remember why I wanted this book, but it has time travel, so hey, what's not to love.
This was a solid time travel book. No wonder it won a Nebula. Going in, I was expecting a sci-fi heavy plot, but really, it's a historical drama. Yes, it's set in the future and there's time travel technology, but once Kivrin gets to the past, that's it. She's not bogged down with gadgets, there are no other time travellers, and there are no timey-wimey twists. The events in the "present" read more like a medical drama. So I was pleasantly surprised by this book.
That cover, though. It somehow manages to make the book look like a romance novel.

Passing this book on to the next reader at the Calgary BookCrossing February meet-up.
Picked this up at the Calgary February BookCrossing meetup.
Enjoyable read!
This was sitting on my shelf for a while and I forgot what it was about when I picked it up. I loved the premise, got surprisingly attached to the characters, and thought it was a time travel story.
