Impoverished single mother Cathie Beck, whose children are away at college, is finally able to take time for herself. She forms a friendship with Denise, a woman in the beginning stages of multiple sclerosis. This is the moving and heartbreaking story about the ups and downs - - the good, the bad, and the ugly - - of their friendship.
This is the kind of friendship every woman needs - - one where she is able to be completely honest, and when that honesty hurts, she is able to forgive. I loved that Cathie recognized her growing frustration as Denise became more and more disabled. I loved that she supported her friend in crazy, wacky ways. I loved that she tried to help her friend in the only way she could think of - - by making a phone call to Denise’s therapist. I loved that this book inspired me to call several of my friends to let them know how much I care about them.
