I found this hard to read. It's written in such a way that I had to re-read parts again before I actually got what was going on. The story is a good one. A slave girl, Sethe escaspes after horrible things are done to her. She manages to get to her mother-in-law with her children but then the white men come for her, so she kills her baby girl because she's rather she was dead then have have anything awful happen to her by their hands. She only manages to kill one of her children before she is stopped. Then she goes to jail for what seems like quiet a short time. Then things get strange. Beloved who is the dead baby, comes back and haunts the house as a ghost but then gets driven away by Sethe's new boyfriend, Paul D. So Beloved then comes back in the flesh to punish Sethe.
I have some questions. Firstly, was Beloved really a ghost? Was that even her? Was she pregnant with Paul D's child? And if she was, what happened to the baby? Where did she go? Was she just in the people who lived at 124's head? Maybe I missed the answers? Books that win prize's always seem way to smart for me. Always feel like I've missed something important that everybody else would have got!
