Luckily for the residents of Gull Harbour, Washington, the local bath and body store - 'Venus Envy' - takes care of all their beauty needs, from custom blended oils to relaxing spa services. Behind the counter is newcome Persia Vanderbilt, the niece of the proprietor, who has a nose for mixing scents - and a mind for solving murder...
THE FAIREST OF THEM ALL...
Lydia Wang is the newly crowned winner of the a local beauty pageant - and the Queen of Mean. Used to getting what she wants, she tussles with Persia over the store's newest acquistition: the Mirror of Aphrodite. Reflecting only the most beautiful aspects of the person looking into it, the mirror is a huge draw and definitely not for sale - no matter how much Lydia is willing to pay. Persia arrives at the shop the next mornign to find Lydia dead, the mirror missing, and one of the shop's treasured employees the prime suspect. Trevor's arrest is a blemish on the shop, so Persia decides to take matters in hand. To clear his name, she must sniff out the signature scent of a killer.'
First book in a new series, but not one I have come across before. Bought for £2 in Huntingdon's branch of the British Heart Foundation today.

Finished over the weekend - it was quite good.
Fairly easy 'cozy' mystery set in a community on an island set off the coast of Washington State, USA. Persia Vanderbilt has moved back to live in Gull Harbour with her eccentric aunt, Florence, who raised Persia after her mother died and her father denied all responsibility. Persia is recovering from a broken relationship, and managing 'Venus Envy' - the beauty shop and salon her aunt owns. With local beauty queen/bitch, Lydia Wang, raising havoc in the shop over her ex-boyfriend, Persia thinks her shop has had enough of a bad vibe - and then the next morning Lydia's body is found in the salon. And her ex - Persia'a employee - is on the run, the police are sure he's the guilty party and Florence wants the shop/salon tidy and cleansed by the local guru. Actually this part is the bit that Persia is keen on - Bran Stanton is spiritual, tall, dark, cute and single.
But then Persia's ex pitches up demanding her back.
Could her life get anymore complicated?!
An easy read, cozy in style with some glorious scenery. Now ready to find a new reader - probably Vamperstein8782 - so reserved.

Ooops! Sorry mate, totally forgot to journal this when it arrived *head slap duly delivered*
A very 'cutesy' book which could have been so much better than it was I feel. It had all the elements to make it a fairly decent crime drama but sadly they just hadn't been mixed right and it fell flat on a lot of points. Still, a very easy read and a reasonable way to spend a rainy afternoon. Have passed it on to my mum who expressed an interest in reading it and will release it to the big wide world as soon as she's done.
