Humbert Humbert is a middle-aged, fastidious college professor. He also likes little girls. And none more so than Lolita, who he’ll do anything to possess. Is he in love or insane? A silver-tongued poet or a pervert? A tortured soul or a monster? …Or is he all of these?

I read this book many years ago and found it fascinating, the amount of self deception a person can have. If you enjoyed this book I also recommend The Death of Bunny Munro by Nick Cave.

Thank you so much! I am really looking forward to reading this. And thank you also for the gorgeous almond and orange chocolate.......I'm popping a piece in my mouth right now!

I started this book expecting to feel very uncomfortable, and Humbert's (the narrator's) descriptions of his thoughts and feelings for Dolores Haze in the first quarter of this book certainly made me feel this.
This book had a strangley dark humour to it, and I did find myself chuckling occasionally if somewhat embarassed that I would find the book funny.
Before I read the book I wasn't sure if the paedophillia in the book would be given sympathies, but it's not, and although Humbert isn't repentant he acknowledges the brutal effects of his actions.
Although to start with I felt I was reading the book from behind my hands, I found it beautifully written although difficult to follow at times. (French phrases anre often thrown in so I feel I lost an element of understanding)
Overall I'm glad I read this book and would encourage anyone to have a go at it. Thank you KiwiinEngland for sharing this with me.
