Boy, was this ever depressing - and reading that it was based on a true case made it even more so. At times I felt I was reading Kafka, because the main character is almost never given any information about what's in store for him. At other times, I felt I was reading The Gulag Archipelago, because of the horrible physical sufferings. Certainly it's a classic, and I'm glad I read it. I'm also glad I'm done.
