Excellent novel. The film was very true to the book, if you have seen that. Wonderful Old English wartime/post-war butler's tale. The beautifully mannered, scrupulous housekeeper loved the butler but he was unable to love her in return...

Picked up by my partner and buried in his stuff while he's been "between permanent homes", so not yet read. I've read it though, it's a wonderful book and I'm encouraging him to read it now. Then we'll re-release it for someone else to enjoy... By the way I seem to be in the minority, but I didn't like the film version - for me Hopkins' Stevens was arrogant rather than reserved, and I struggled to empathise with him in the way I had in the novel.

I bought this book online and was happy to find that it was a bookcrossing one.

I've only started reading a couple of days ago but I'm enjoying it immensely. I love the language and the descriptions of the English countryside.

I'll have to think about who to give it to next. I'd like it to cross borders again maybe :D
