"Lord of th Flies" is clearly a book written for children but it is quite readable as an adult and the very clear but very sad message of the corruption of the human characater is rather applicable to all ages. The story is, from an adult point of view, somewhat dragging at times but picks up momentum as you read on, with quite an exciting culmination and an unexpectedly poignant and almost ironic ending, which is perhaps carrying not quite the right message as it is the total dissolution of "law and order" and the resulting destruction of the island paradise that ultimately facilitates the rescue of the surviving children.

I agree with coolbox - it's not a very happy portrayal of human nature, but very readable. I couldn't help wondering if the participants of "I'm a Celebrity" might end up the same way if they didn't have daily supervision from Ant & Dec!
