Ranger suspects one of his employees is trying to drive him out of business. In order to pin point the problem, he hires Stephanie to "snoop" as she does research computer work as his newest hire. Stephanie finds herself working double shifts. She continues her bounty hunting during the day and Ranger's office at night.

As usual, Stephanie can't make up her mind between Ranger and Morelli, which makes for a lot of interesting problems, since she spends a lot of time in Ranger's apartment while working for him. And as always, Lula with Grandma Mazur are busy in a "side plot" that adds to the fun. (I think the name of the book comes from all the time Stephanie and Lula spend at "Cluck-in-a-Bucket".)
