Possibly the, '...seminal book of the Noughties', i'm missing them already, the huge bonuses, the cocaine-fuelled partying. Hold on, I don't think I was there! Anyway, knowing Elton, this will be insightful, funny, and unerringly on-the-money.
(19/03/11) *includes spoilers* This is one of Ben Elton's recent bang up-to-date on-message novels, this being the banking crisis & MPs expenses scandal (others include reality TV...) BE doesn't hit all the targets that he attempts here as I think its a bit too contrived, for example Rupert is too greedy and self-serving to be believed, and the hero Jimmy the 'jimster' a little too naive to be a massively successful trader, and then lose everything, and the MP and the hair-dryer!? Unless of course i'm missing the point and these are meant to be implausible stereotype to tell a sort of modern child-like parable of excess, fallibility, honesty & redemption? Even the good die young (Robbo). So, after a few pages, I did stop trying to find fault - and being over-analytical - and just went with the flow :) Overall, a bit far-fetched, but a good story.
