Dark Blood is the true story of Ethan Bray, a restless Romany orphan. Into his settled farming life in post-war Kent comes May, the beautiful daughter of the Traveller Tucker Beaney; but Ethan must face immense danger and personal conflict if he is to win her hand in marriage.

A story very simply written - the words of a Romany who can neither read nor write, dictated to a fellow Romany and then transcribed. It illustrates the prejudice and harsh treatment experienced by Romany people and sadly, still ongoing today. The preface and epilogue contain something of the history of the Romany people, which is of interest to me as my children are one-eighth Romany.
