I remember reading this while quite young and having just discovered Stephen King books. I don't remember it being quite so slow to start! But this isn't a complete shock-a-minute gore fest (although there are some yucky bits in it!), rather a slow burning, terror filled story as the characters begin to realise what is happening.
And Christine is one mean car! Out to get anyone who goes against her or her driver. Completely focused on getting revenge, she definitely isn't the sort of vehicle that you'd want to own (although the self-repairing bit of her would be enjoyed by my bank balance!). I like the fact that things aren't explained that neatly - we find out what is happening, but can only share in the character's theories on why - King does a good job of not pinning down how it all came about - maybe is could happen again? And the ending is suitably open-ended to make you diligently check every time you cross the road and never annoy someone driving a red and white car.
Classic King - well worth the read!
