Bought this from a booksale event as I had the first book and had heard good things about the author. Both books have been lounging around unread, so now I've finally got them regsitered, I might get round to them.

This basically follows the same sort of format and story as the first book. Two different timelines, linked together by family and location, although this time the 'supernatural' element is a demonic Tarot deck and a restless ghost.

Again, like the first book, I liked the story set in the past a little better as it had more of a thrilling edge to it - the family being stalked by a crazy man who starts rumours and murders witnesses as he tries to track them down. While the more modern story just seems a bit tame by comparison, with Meredith setting out to find out about her family with just a couple of photographs and a piece of music to help her. While she gets herself embroiled in the deaths happening around the hotel, you sort of feel that she falls from one thing to another and doesn't have the same 'spirit' as Leonie did in the past.

And, like the first book, this could have done with a stronger editor to get rid of a lot of the filler chapters that gave nothing to the story and just increased the word count. Would have made it a more thrilling, fast paced ride.

That said, I did enjoy reading this - personally, the supernatural stuff was a little too subtle for me and a bit more would have been great, but on the whole I liked the way the two stories interacted and the use of the Tarot was good.
