"It is July, three months after Lara's seventeenth birthday and a week before Charles and Diana's Royal Wedding. When Lara's father, a man she barely knows, invites her to accompany him on holiday, she finds herself in the sun-scorched hillsides of Tuscany, far away from the fumes of London's Holloway Road. There she meets the Willoughby family, rife with illicit alliances and vendettas. The more embroiled she becomes with them, and with the carelessly beautiful Kip, the more Lara is consumed with doubt, curiosity and dread. And so begins her intoxicating journey into self-discovery and across the very fine line between childhood and what lies beyond."
"Love Falls captures the delicious uncertainty and electrifying beginnings of first love" Glamour
"A vividly rendered portrait of a young girl's journey towards self-discovery and maturity" Daily Mail
"As a coming-of-age tale, Love Falls is expertly realised... the entire book radiates with the empathy for which Freud is known." Times Literary Supplement
"This sultry coming-of-age tale is mesmerising" Grazia
After a slow start, during which I doubted if I'd even continue reading, my efforts were greatly rewarded when the story got more interesting. I was drawn into it and wanted to know how things would end. I was surprised at what happened, especially since the start seemed a bit predictable. In my opinion it's a well written story, that builds up quite nicely, I think Esther Freud did an amazing job in keeping her characters human and real. Recommended read!
