I found parts of this very moving and gripping, though from time to time I did wonder if it was really several stories trying to masquerade as one. Still, the writing was lovely and the inter-weaving of these lives and cultures was very interesting.

best book I've read for a long while.... I think I've read far too many factual or humourous books recently. Thoroughly enjoyed the moving life telling story that spread over a mixture of inter-linked lives and so many years. Read daily on the train.... never wanted to stop reading when reached my destination stops - had to force myself off the train and get to work until return journey at end of the day which was so happily met when the book was opened again! If my friend in the wild doesn't want it when I next see her - it will end up back at Motspur Park station for someone else to retrieve & I'm sure they will enjoy!
