Last of the trilogy. A bit pedestrian in places where he fills in the geographical and economic background, but told with his usual wry, deprecating humour at the
British. A sad story of pride and hubris and the human tragedy told sympathetically.

Thanks for this ancient-welly I look forward to reading it. May take awhile to get to it though as my to be read shelf is growing and of course includes 'Troubles' by the same author which I wish to read first.
This is the only one of the 'empire' trilogy not to win a Booker prize yet in many ways I thought it was the best. It is a bitingly satirical take on the fall of Singapore and the end of the British Empire in the east. A tad drawn out in places as ancient-welly implies but well worth the read. Thanks for sharing it ancient-welly.
Given to rodamliz during monthly meet-up at The Layer Fox.
