I wanted to read this book after seeing the movie version (with a young Leo Decaprio playing the role of Jack).

This story is based upon the author's life as a boy growing up and living with his divorced mom and abusive step-father.
The author's story kept me interested from the first page; I kept wanting to get back to the book to see what would happen next. I was however, furstrated with Jack's choices in life...he kept making the situation all the worse for him. Even the ending would have been thoroughly disappointing had I not known that the troubled boy would become a brilliant author.
Some of the foul language got on my nerves...a pet peeve of mine because it definitely does not improve the story by including the words.
Overall, still a good read. I think others will agree too...not sure how I am going to release this yet.

I cannot believe I finally finished this book, today. I started reading this in January, and it took some time to get through. I honestly did not like the book, it was depressing, and not like the movie at all. The movie was better then the book, and that's the first time I have ever confessed that. I am going to give it a three star. The villian , step-father wasn't that abusive, IMO. He was sort of stupid actually of his own faults, and made every around him feel small, because he was basically a loser. The kid in the book was okay but did some really stupid things as well

The I received the book and started flipping through the pages, a lot of swear words are censored out, and I wasn't too happy about it. Not sure what I am doing with the book, because of that reason. I may just donate it to my library.
