Product Description
"On the Road" swings to the rhythms of 1950s underground America, jazz, sex, generosity, chill dawns and drugs, with Sal Paradise and his hero Dean Moriarty, traveller and mystic, the living epitome of Beat. Now recognized as a modern classic, its American Dream is nearer that of Walt Whitman than Scott Fitzgerald, and it goes racing towards the sunset with unforgettable exuberance, poignancy and autobiographical passion.

Finally, finally I read this book.
I struggled with it, trying to find some sense in the story. When I let that go (around half way), it got a bit better.
The story itself still confuses me. Why on earth would anyone get up and travel the country like Sal (and his friends) do? How can you leave your kids? How can you leave behind your travel mates when they are ill?
It looks like the 1940's in America were (at least partly and/or for some groups of people) waaayyy less strict than I always thought they were...
