Thank you Hakkalina for your wonderful presents! I didn't expect to find another wishlist book.. (after I opened "The Sisters Grimm") but there it was! It's very cute, so small ^-^ (I didn't guess there would be a book inside the wrapping ;p). This sounds very interesting, looking forward to read it..
Loved it! I only started yesterday with the book and couldn't put it down so I finished it today. The story is well written and draws you in right from the start.
Sixteen year old Takeo (or Tomasu), loves roaming the mountains around the remote village where he lives with his family, when one day he returns to find the village burning and everyone murdered. He is saved by Lord Otori Shigeru who takes him under his wing.. and later discovers that he has special abilities (which is part of his legacy he didn't know about). And there is also lots political intrigue with all the power struggles between (and within) the different clans/fiefdoms.
I can't wait to get my hands on the rest of the series. :p
(Thanks again Hakkalina for sharing this book with me ^_^)

It’s not a mystery novel, in the way there is a murder’s investigation. No, it has an aura of mystery surrounding the past of the character of Takeo. Of course, I’m not fond of novels that include martial art and manga, with history and romance. But I cannot deny that it was well written and read well – quite well actually, as it took me only 2 days to read it! Still, it’s one of these books that I’m not sure I’ll ever read more by the author or read the other in the series. But if someone is looking for such a book, I would recommend this one.

From the Netherlands across the Atlantic and nowback!! Wow nice journey!! Thanks carelaisa. I will definitely read it but in due time.
I rarely read fantasy books, but this one I loved. It takes place in an imaginary place similar to Japan. Tomasu is the first character we meet. He is wandering in the forest and upon his return he finds his village destroyed totally and the people slaughtered. He is the only survivor, saved by Lord Shigeru of the Otori Clan. He is adopted by his saviour and named Takeo. On the other side, there is Kaede, a hostage to the Noguchi.
Most of this book is following Shigeru and Takeo. The small peasant boy becomes slowly slowly an aristocrat, learning both to read/write and to fight. The negative of the book is the way it finishes. It seems that we are in the middle of a scene in the tv and at the most crucial point it stops and all you can see is "To be continued". If it was a trick of the writer or the publisher to make their books more sold, it is pretty disappointing.

Next in my list! :)
As a fantasy lover, this was the first time I read asian thematic fantasy - I really enjoyed it. Light and involving :) Looking fwd to read the rest of the collection!
