1980 Ballantine Books paperback of the 1953 Marlowe L.A. detective story. The cover art on this eighth printing copy is different from the picture icon now attached to this same ISBN. I think I remember this being a pretty good Donald Sutherland film in the early 1970s. My goal is to read the Chandler series in the order of publication, as I find them. I found this copy a few weeks ago in the free books pile on the porch of Dimond Library.

I can let this one go after I read:
1933 Blackmailers Don't Shoot (novelette) [read 2012]
1934 Smart-Aleck Kill (novelette) [read 2012]
1934 Finger Man (novella) [read 2012]
1935 Killer in the Rain (novelette) [read 2012]
1936 The Curtain (novelette) [read 2012]
1936 The Man Who Liked Dogs (novelette) [read 2012]
1937 Try The Girl (novelette) [read 2012]
1937 Mandarin's Jade (novelette) [read 2012]
1938 The King in Yellow (novelette) [read 2013]
1939 Pearls Are a Nuisance (novelette) [read 2013]
1939 The Big Sleep [read 2014]
1939 I'll Be Waiting (short sotry) [read 2014]
1940 Farewell, My Lovely [read 2014]
1942 The High Window [read 2018]
1943 The Lady in the Lake [read 2018]
1950 The Simple Art of Murder (essay) [read 2018]

Edit December 12, 2019: I think this was pretty good, but I only had time to skim it. It is a rather complex thriller. I currently have this ranked at #860 on my ranked list of best-read books lately.
