I Coriander
4 journalers for this copy...
My friend, Alice, is visiting from Germany. We traded a bunch of books - this is one she gave to me.
I discovered, from the book jacket, that this is actually written for older children. It's a combination of a fairy story and historical fiction. At first I thought the 'fantasy' passages would spoil it for me, but it is beautifully, poetically written and everyone needs a little fairy story in their lives and so I became engrossed in both of Coriander's lives. The evil characters are all bad and the good ones probably too good, but then isn't that always the way of fairy stories - just think about Snow White or Cinderella!
I'll be interested to see what other BCers think of it. It's off to North Yorkshire tomorrow morning.

Thank you so much for this very interesting-looking book, bluenoser - and for the other two books which arrived at the same time. What a lovely start to a rather grey Monday morning! This is calling so loudly to me to read it NOW that I don't think it'll be hanging around my TBR piles for long, especially as it counts for plum-crazy's current challenge to read books with Food and Drink in the title :-)

On page 71 Coriander spotted The Crooked Man from a window and reminded me of The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly. The two copies on my BookShelf can be accessed here and here. I haven't got far but I'm already pretty sure that if you enjoy this, you'll enjoy that as well - and vice versa!
I've now Reserved this for Tree-hugger. She complains that she's getting overloaded with books To Be Read but sometimes they won't take No for an answer....

Despite the discomfort they cause, summer coughs, colds and sore throats can provide some unexpected and very welcome reading time! It's an ill wind - and all that.... I was fascinated by Coriander's story and wasn't too disappointed to have a good excuse for not putting the book down until I'd finished it. I might not have been up to anything more intellectually challenging but this YA fairy tale hit just the right note. Thanks again, bluenoser :-)

To tree-hugger. I think she'll like it!
Thanks for this, I'll try not to leave it too long on Mount TBR
Sorry I kept this so long. I really liked it when I finally got around to reading it! It reminded me of Book of Lost Things too, Nu-Knees, but I liked it far better. I liked the combination of the fairytale feel (with goodies & baddies & magic & true love), & the real historical setting (with a stinky Thames & Cromwell's army & accusations of witchcraft). I thought it worked really well.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
I'll be taking this book down to Nottingham this weekend, where we're having a bookcrossing convention. I don't know if any of the other bookcrossers will fancy it, or whether I'll leave it out and about somewhere in Nottingham for a random stranger to find.
If you're that random stranger, welcome to bookcrossing! Thanks for visiting the website. We'd love to hear your comments on this book, if you want to add them to this page. You can remain anonymous, but if you choose to register you'll get emails so you can track the progress of this book whenever it moves on from one reader to another.

Picked it up from the book buffet.
I've just finished reading it. It's funny that previous readers said it reminded them of The book of lost things, because I just read that before I read this book. So when the crooked man turned up in this book I did have a bit of a deja vu moment. I enjoyed this book, a great way to escape. I would probably have loved this book if I had read it when I was a kid.
