I enjoyed this. The series of short articles culled from the author's days as a journalist make a visit to the loo much more enjoyable. And I did actually laugh a couple of times!

See above - a gentle read

I picked this book up in the summer, on a tour of OBCZ's with Colchester Karen. I'm long overdue in journalling it, because I got caught in a stupid tussle about trying to get the photos of our day off Mr Potok's phone... and then it got buried on Mount TBR. Sorry about that!

The introduction warns, The majority of the articles are humorous, but a few aren't quite as light-hearted - in particular the piece about struggling with alcoholism. (But you can skip it if it makes you depressed!) That's the beauty of a collection like this - unlike a novel, it can be read in any order you please; you can even start at the back if you want. I like the idea that this is something you can dip in and out of, that you can let the book fall open on a random page and just start reading... (p.x)

Most of the pieces in this book were published in glossy magazines. The perfect sort of thing for reading while waiting for the doctor to call your name, or while waiting to fall asleep in the sun on the beach. But reading a pile of them in a row is like eating a box of chocolates - after a while it begins to pall until eventually you feel almost sick. I loved the refreshing piece on alcoholism because it was suddenly real rather than witty. And after that, I couldn't really go back to the fluff.

I'd recommend this for a guest room, or a waiting room, or even the bathroom. :)
