Couldn't get through it - found it boring even though I wanted to learn about the Vietnamese life. Didn't care for her other book either (Sweetness in the Belly).

I read this some time ago, and can only recall that I enjoyed it. I enjoyed the character Old Man Hung, the pho seller. The redeeming quality was sense of another culture.
